Manish Sharma

In the works of Manish Sharma, the idea of nostalgia is evoked as a part of a person or a community’s strong intentions to escape from the oppressive present and take refuge in the memories of a golden past. However, the same notion of longing could be a part of the political thinking of a creative person.

As a promising Indian contemporary artist, he tries to explore the complex relationships between the artist, society, and surroundings. Manish’s art originates as a cultural and political critique. Not only towards the administrative apathy of the local governing bodies but all those agencies that facilitate the cannibalization of cultures through imperialistic incursions, economic proliferation, and mindless modernization. Manish Sharma was a recipient of the Junior Fellowship Award by the India Ministry of Culture in 2011. 2004, he received the National Award by Lalit Kala Akademi and the AIFACS, has attracted wide attention from the art world.
