John Martono is an internationally acclaimed Indonesian artist and textile designer whose works have featured in Indonesia, Australia, USA and Thailand. His swirling abstracts with a mix of painting and hand embroidery on silk brings a new and different perspective within Indonesia’s contemporary fine arts. The combination of textile science, embroidery, and painting on silk that requires a special technique became John’s trademark for self-expression.
The vibrancy of his colours and the dramatic brush strokes on large silk rolls creates unpredictable effects through the meticulously planned compositions. His smooth, flowing, hand painted and hand embroidered collection built over a decade, is his contribution to textile art.
His art works have received wide fame and have been exhibited and collected across the world at hotels, airports, corporate offices, and privately.
A graduate at the Faculty of Art and Design at Bandung Institute of Technology with a Major in Textile Design, he also teaches at his alma mater.
